1st day on Site!

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP...What!? where am I? 5:30! Oh dang I got to go help make breakfast!

It was an early day for the team, two of us were up at 5:30 to make breaky, everyone else was up at 6:30 to eat, and we were on the road rolling off to work by 7ish.   It was a 30 minute drive up a mountain. That contained many bumps, goat, dog and people dodging, steep and winding roads, and bags of juice. Our driver, Todd, a 55 yr old missionary from Cali, dropped us off at a poor rural community where our first site was seeing a women hand bathing herself in a some-what tarped boxed off area. The foundation and supplies were right beside the tarp shower area waiting for us to get to it. We prayed, and got to work! A third of group helped with framing and managed to build all 5 walls and put up 4 of them. It was a good first day! The other 2/3s of the group got their paint on! They painted all the wall sheeting, all the trim, and all 10 kids that helped them; all by 1:30! They were major fast, and spent the rest of their afternoon connecting with the families from this community. Around 5, Toddy Bear (Todd) picked us up and we headed back down the crazy road to our home at the YWAM base.

We arrived home just in time for some pumpkin rice and bean chicken stew...and a bunch of delicious hot sauce! A few of us got sunburns *cough Tyanna *cough, but all of us stayed hydrated. We then relaxed for an hour or so, and had a team meeting about first impressions of Jamaica. Here are some of them...
-felt very welcomed (hugged and laughed a lot)
-seeing poverty first hand created a wake-up call to how fortunate we are
-kids with barely any clothes, running barefoot over garbage piles, kids only source of food being the snacks from our lunch that we shared. Intense stuff!
    -YWAM staff’s freedom to worship
-praying for everything (ie. YWAM staff thanks the Lord that they get to wash the dishes)
-Community kids quickness to loving and hugging (a deep desire to be loved)

It was a wild day, where we were all stretched in many different ways. Please continue to pray for us, especially for energy, joy and love as we serve this community all day tomorrow.

Thanks for reading, I am going to bed.
Peace -Levi, Hannah, and the Krew!
