ARRIVED SAFE IN CANADA!
Hello friends and family!!!
We have arrived safe in Toronto. We are now FILLED with Pizza and heading to bed.
There was mixed emotions leaving Jamaica today, everyone was sad to leave this amazing country but excited to head home to see all of you!
Our debrief weekend was a wonderful time, filled with reflection and dreaming of what the Lord has for us back at home. Ways that we can take what we have learned and saw and really apply it to our lives back home... things like:
Serving the Poor of Saskatoon
Serving the Elderly of Saskatoon through music
Serving our families more
Bringing Prayer into every aspect of our lives
Allowing God to be part of every area of life
Where just a few of the ways that we want to incorporate what the Lord has taught us to bring back home. I am excited to see these students live out what they have learnt!
We also enjoyed playing on the beach on Saturday, which was right across the street from the Youth Hostel we stayed in. We were able to play on a "Ice Berg" Climbing wall that was about 25 ft tall, a water trampoline, beach volley ball, and some went snorkelling! We had Jamaican Patties for lunch and ate a wonderful meal at a restaurant on the beach for supper. All this mixed in with debrief sessions it was such a great way to close our time in Jamaica.
It was a real privilege and joy to serve along side these students and leaders. This was an amazing team. They really grasped what it means to serve the Lord through serving others extravagantly. We had so much for together as well! Thank you all for being a huge part of these amazing students and leaders lives, and encouraging them to be the people they are today! They are such hard workers, even when they where exhausted they had smiles on their faces waiting to serve more. Wow. What a blessing!
The team might go through a little culture shock coming home, not being with the same 15 people 24/7 who always laugh at their jokes and understand what they have just seen and been apart of. Be patient as we continue to unpack the many things we have learnt.:)
I would love to express how thankful I am to have all of your prayers and support we could not have done this without you, that you our extended team! Also, thank you for taking time to read this and post comments!
May the Lord bless you!!!!

Starting to say Good-Bye!
Preparing to come home!
We are just getting ready to leave the YWAM Base. All the students are packing and cleaning as I type. Soon we will start to say good-bye to our friends at the base.:(
This morning we spent time at Blossom Gardens. This is a very hard place to visit. It is very different from the Robins Nest. The Team fully understood that after we left. These children at this home, are rarely held or loved. You can tell the stark contrast between the two (Nest and Blossom Gardens) after just a few minutes with the Children. Most of the students where holding more than one baby. We didn't have enough arms to go around, but we are glad for even the short time we got to spend with them. We where able to sing songs, do a craft with them and leave a bunch of donated items. It was hard leaving them. Knowing that they are just surviving there. Sad.We are thankful to the Lord that we got to see this and even if only for a short time cuddle them as much as possible.
Tonight we will debrief more about the students reaction to our time there. It was a quite ride home from Blossom Gardens. I believe we are suppose to be disturbed by what we see, but it is not ok for us not to stay at the place of hopelessness. Instead we are going to start asking the question "Now what." What can I do with what the Lord has given me?

James 1:27
New International Version (NIV)
27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.
"Now that we have seen we are responsible faith without deeds is dead."
Tonight the Team will received all of your encouragement from home, my prayer is that the Lord will use this to encourage the students to see the tremendous blessings they have in their lives and to respond with their desire to keep loving God first and loving others. This is a very important time in their lives as the walk through the "Now What."
Thank you for being a wonderful part of this adventure for this team. Thank you for your prayers and financial support. Thank you for all of your encouraging posts, the students love hearing them. Keep them coming!
I am unsure of the internet situation until sunday evening. If I am able I will write you a post tomorrow. If not you will hear from us on Sunday!
We will spend the weekend debriefing and playing at the beach (Hopefully no sunburns!:) Another praise item is the we have been injury free! Praise the LORD!
With a very full heart,
Hannah

Our sweet adventure is coming to an end, but our stories aren't!!
Today we woke up bright and early and cleaned up our rooms at Robin’s Nest, ate a delicious breakfast and headed back down the mountain to the YWAM base! It was a great few days at Robin’s Nest! When we got back to YWAM we were able to relax for a bit, swim, and hangout. After lunch we headed over to the Hope Hospice for a couple hours. We got to have some fellowship with the elderly people of Jamaica. The people in this home are sick and are basically stuck in a bed for the rest of their lives. It was a sad but extremely humbling experience. They have so much joy and peace about their situations it was definitely contagious, seeing people have so little but yet be so happy about their life! They see their blessings instead of dwelling on what they don’t have.
Big shoutout to Tarzan! - Jane
Today we were able to visit the Hope Hospice. It is a palliative care home for individuals with AIDS and other disabilities. I had the chance to speak with a 77 year old woman named Virginia. She lost both her legs to poor circulation. She has been living at the hospice for the past five years. She also has trouble with her vision and is unable to read, so it was a privilege to read to her from the Bible. She loved hearing from the book of Psalms. I could hear her recite the words along with me as I read. It was very special to see just how much joy it brought her for someone to take time to read to her. It made me think of how much I take for granted, such as my sight and the ability to walk. It made me realize that I am truly BLESSED! -Mel
Hey Guys! It’s been a crazy experience here so far, especially since it’s my first time out of the country. I think one of the most encouraging things here in Jamaica is the people. They are just so willing to talk to absolutely anyone that crosses their path. I want Canada to start being like them more (so feel free to start now:!)
Its also crazy to see God in the creation here waking up to the beautiful sunrise. I wish I could just write about everything, but I can’t, so, I’ll stop. Thanks for all the prayers- Amber
I like to think I’m truly on this trip to serve the Lord, not simply for my own enjoyment, however, I find it difficult to maintain that perspective after observing how others have responded to the calling God has placed on their lives. After spending time at the Robin’s Nest Children’s Home, I was struck by the way the Wileys, who run the home, have uprooted their household by moving to Jamaica and committed their entire life to loving the children. I was exhausted after two days of working at the home and hanging out with the children, yet they do everything I did, and more, day after day, getting time off only once every six months. It’s humbling and eye opening for me to continue to realize that serving God is not always comfortable and easy, but can involve much greater sacrifice than going on a fun trip to a warmer climate for a few weeks. The more I see God working through the lives of others, the more I hope God can push me out of my comfort zone, so that I can strive to bring Him glory in everything I do. Thanks for all the prayer and encouragement; I look forward to sharing my experiences when I return!
Devin
I can’t believe how fast our trip is going by! It’s been an incredible experience. One of the highlights of the trip safer was spending time with the children at the worksite where we built the house. It was eye opening to see the poverty in the community around the worksite. The children we met there, were craving love and attention. It was an absolute blessing to hold them, play with them and see them smile. They have left a lasting impression and I am already missing them.
Another one of my favorite parts of the trip was our trip to the Hope Hospice. It was a very humbling and challenging experience. The people living there had so little. Despite there situations they were so thankful and had so much praise for God. I really appreciate all of your prayers and comments. I am excited to share more about my experiences when I return home!
-Tiffany
Oh hey everyone! Kerstyn here. We are having an unreal time serving the Lord and seeing the different ways he is working in the lives of the Jamaicans. From down at the YWAM base all the way up the mountain, where there is more poverty then i ever thought there would be, God is a ever huge part of these peoples everyday lives. It became very evident how our cultures differ in worship when we got to go to church on Sunday. Everyone was moving, dancing, and singing so passionately it was impossible not to feel the Holy Spirit fill the room. I guess it just challenged me to take everything I have as a blessing and to remain joyful and grateful through any situation. I hope that I can take that same fire wherever I go to serve the Lord. Our God is so good. He is love, joy, peace, and mercy, and he is transforming lives! - Kerstyn
It has been an amazing journey so far, it seems we have done so much. I would have to say my biggest high light thus far has been the work site, where we built the home for Karen and her family. I will be honest... I didn’t do much of the hard labour, I spent a big portion of my time hanging out with the kids. The thing that just made me want to love on these kids SO much was the thought that they don’t get this often, this is not a normal routine for them, to have a group of people come in and build a home and hang out and play with them for a few days. I feel when you go to Children’s homes, though it is still so great to love on them, they experience it a lot more then what these particular children did. It was so fun just to have fun with them, build things, be crazy, be goofy, be a kid! They were so full of life and SOOOO full of energy. They were all so unique and absolutely beautiful. I had an amazing time with them. It was definitely great. - Alex
Our night ended with an amazing fancy dinner put on for our team from the YWAM staff... Jerk Chicken, Rice, Beans, Festivals, Plantanes, Salad, and ice cream for dessert! We then had a team meeting and went into hanging out with the team, just enjoying our last few nights together. Tomorrow morning we head off to Blossom Gardens, another children’s home, for a few hours to hang out with the kids. Then it’s time to pack up and clean up our stuff at the YWAM base and head to the Caraibic House for our debrief! Thanks so much for your prayers and comments and love! We love you all!

Many Hands working together
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR ENCOURAGING POSTS! Keep them coming!
Today we had a wonderful filled day. In the mornings we got the chance to sleep in for the past few days. 8:30am! After breakfast we met with all the kids from “Jakes House” (all the older boys from Robins Nest) The boys paired up with our team, to build the fence. We laid out the fencing along the mountain side and attached it with MANY hands to the poles. It was great to be able to serve alongside the children! After lunch we did a few skit, songs, crafts and swam with the kids! It was a great day!
After dinner we did devotions with the older kids. The devotion time consisted of prayer, a few stories, and ended with a “thankful check” one by one the kids would say one thing they were thankful for, and always gave thanks to the Lord, they all had to say something different. The night ended with a movie (Night at the Museum) with the boys from Jake’s House, it was their reward for working so hard with the team today! Tomorrow we leave Robin’s Nest bright and early to head back to the YWAM base and later we will be going to the Hope Hospice.
Alrighty so tonight we were able to have devotions with the kids at the Robins Nest and at the end we all took turn saying what we were thankful for and some of the kids answers really put things into perspective for me. Hearing the answers I’m thankful for clothes. It makes me realize how thankful they really are for these things and for me these things I don't even think about I’ve just always had them. It really makes me thankful for all that God has blessed me with.- Tyson
Hey there, so Sunday we went to a church here called “The Light House.” The people of this church were so filled with the joy of God they were jumping around and dancing during worship and shouting alleluias and amens durning the service made me think, why aren’t we that excited about God back home. Lets get stoked everyone, we have a God who has a plan for us. -Matt
Such a blessing to be on this trip! I’m having such a blast! I’ve done a lot of things! So far I’ve used a shwack of sunscreen, caught a firefly, learned how to barter in a market, tried sugar cain, bonded with my teammates, laughed a lot, danced in church, had a gecko on my face, been blessed by the community, played soccer barefoot, held tons of little kids, ate goat, learned how to build a fence Jamaican style, got covered in paint, built a house, licked a lot of elbows, had many cold showers, and climbed a waterfall! So thats just a bit of what i’ve been up too so far, hope that gave you a snapshot of the good times we’ve been having. “Jamaica? YA MAN!!” - Tracey-Lynne
W’gwan! This trip... has been outstanding to say the least, it is so great to be in Jamaica. There are so many people to meet and children to love. I feel like everyday manages to stretch me, and I am so challenged by little things, such as a barefoot child playing in the trash, or a shy orphan boy thankful for clothes. Poverty is so real here, but regardless, the passion of the people is incredible. I am truly inspired by their hope and faith despite their circumstances. I am sad that this trip is over half finished so soon... I look forward to the adventures that remain in this place and I hope to absorb so much more of the Jamaican attitude that’s here, as well as their intense passion for worshiping God. -Tyanna

Joy and long days!
Today was a long day... physically exhausting. We dug holes in literally the side of a ROCKY mountain for a fence and mixed cement by hand. Then carried it back up the mountain side to fill the holes! Then played with the kids all evening. The team is getting tired today, please pray for energy.
A few team members have written a few thoughts each below. In the next few days all of the team will post a thought! Stay tuned!
Please leave comments below for the team to read we would love to hear that you are following our trip, it would be very encouraging! Also feel free to give shout outs!
The past few days have been transition times. We finished our work project, had a rest day, then got right back into serving. We are right now at an orphanage called the Robin’s Nest. It is an old monastery that is located on the top of a mountain, the very TOP! The location and the kids here are unreal. The Robin’s Nest is a pretty intense ministry, that involves taking care of 30ish kids 24/7. The couple that leads the nest has legitimately given up their life to serve these kids (they have done 6 months straight of no days off before). It’s very challenging and humbling hearing their story. These have been things that stuck out for me right now. Fabian, Denero, and Damien are sitting with me as I type this, and want to play soccer. So Peace, -Levi. (oh and good comments!)
Whenever I think of the orphanages I think of really sketchy places, like the orphanage on the movie ‘Anne.’ The Robins Nest surprised me. It is great to see how much God is behind it and providing support for them.-Geoff
I have been supper encouraged and blessed by the joy and love that Jamaicans show to those around them and their passion for the Lord. We had the opportunity to experience Jamaican Worship on Sunday and it was not something be forgotten. Me and a couple other girls got to dance with some VERY passionate Jamaican ladies. The Lord is teaching me to show joy in all things and everything I do to give it up to him and surrender all. -Julia
I really enjoyed going to see those kids on the second day on the work site. By that point the kids were use to us so they would come right up to us and site on our laps and cuddle with us. They where so happy when we arrived, it was so rejuvenating and exciting. That was also the day we had a tea party. There was lots of garbage laying around so one of the girls found a glass bottle and filled it with the water we used to clean the paint brushes. It was incredible to see the creativity of these kids and how content they are. I miss you all. - Jacey
Wow, God is so good! These past 7 days have been so challenging eye opening and awesome! WE HAVE SUCCESSFULLY BULT A HOUSE!!!:) Yay! That experience was unbelievable being able to be apart of that community and to bless Karren’s family with a house was so great! One of my highlights was being able to build a cart with my boy Omar who had been saving a broken wheel of a stroller for the right project for a year. It was humbling and made me realize how very blessed I am. Also, seeing how the Christians worship God has been UNREAL! Getting to worship with YWAM staff and students and also going to church here us an incredible experience. I could keep writing till my hands fall off, with all of the experiences I have learned but I wont. Hanging out with the kids here at the Robins Nest requires lots and lots of sleep and energy. That is it for now I can’t wait to see you all to give you the full update of my adventures in Jamaica.- Margaret

Lot has happened in so little time! Please read about the last few days!
THE INTERNET was down at the YWAM base for the last few days. We tried to blog but we didnt have internet. SO SORRY Please read below about our exciting days!
Today we had a WONDERFUL day at Dunns River Falls!!! Very relaxing and SUPER FUN! It was a wonderful day of climbing the waterfall and playing at the beach! We are all sunburned, most of us used LOADS of sunscreen! We are clearly not Jamaican, at this moment we are applying sunscreen and drinking lots of water. After the falls we went to Scotties for jerk chicken, then up to the top of the mountain to the Robins Nest. We arrived about 15 mins ago at the Robins Nest all the kids where being put to bed, except for the ones who ran out when our bus came on the property. :)
We are excited to be here and to be going to bed soon!
We will write more soon! Much LOVE!!!!!
PLEASE READ THE BELOW POSTS!
After three days of hard work the house was finally finished. It was very rewarding to see the house finished and the excitement in the family faces. We brought a bag full of clothes, diapers, household items, toys, that we where able to give them at the time of the dedication. To start the house dedication we passed the keys around the circle each praying a blessing for the family. We prayed that this house would give the family hope and protection and that this house could be used as a vessel to further his kingdom. Karen then started to thank our team for everything we did for her family. It was truly a blessing for us to see the joy and gratitude in her face. Her daughter also made sure we knew how she felt about our team. Her statement went a little something like this... “I am so glad to came to us, I really love you all, and I am thankful that you came, I really appreciate you, I really appreciate you, I really appreciate you all and I love you all.”
Since this is a very poor community, they do not have very much food, as well because of their remote location it is extremely hard to get any food. Naomi (Mother of Karren) was telling us that about every 3 weeks she goes shopping for flour, rice and oil. That she carries them a few hours up the mountain. When we ate our food durning our lunch breaks at the worksite all of the kids where infatuated with Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches and apples, this simple meal though nothing special to us was a feast to them. It was hard to eat our portion of food in order to keep us going and not share all of it with them. Many of us did share our lunches there was never any food left at the end of the day.
Tyanna’s church gave us money to give for a house warming for our Homes of Hope Family, we where instructed to buy groceries for them. After the dedication we all came back to the base, some of the team went swimming. Maragert, Tyanna Geoff, Jacey, and Hannah went shopping at the Jamaica Costco “Mega Mart” for flour, rice, cereal, milk powder, jam(to go with the peanut butter we bought), snacks for the kids etc. We went back up on the very bumpy ride for one last time and brought the food. Karren was very excited for the food.
Since fundraising went so well for our team, we where able to also buy a double bunk bed, gas stove and a refill for the gas tank as a part of the house warming gift. Shortly after we delivered the food, the appliances arrived. We put the beds together by light of a cell phone, as well as the stove because it was getting dark and they do not have electricity. It was hard to leave everyone again for a second time, Meme one local kids cried “I am missing you already,” it was very sad.
Hannah was talking to Karren about sleeping, (the day before she said hadn’t slept because of her 6 month old had kept her up all night, all 5 kids and Karren previous shared 2 beds) But tonight she said“I am so blessed I can sleep well, God has blessed us so much.” What an amazing opportunity to be apart of blessing this family.
Today we were able to experience the Holy Spirt in a very powerful way during an amazing worship service at the church we attended. Hearing the voices of the worship team and congregation gave us all shivers. What we experienced is only a taste of how we will worship our Lord in Heaven. As a team we where given the opportunity to do special music in the service Julia and Tyanna lead us in a song called “Follow You”. A phrase within the song is “Follow you in to the homes of the broken, follow you into the world, follow you into the homes of the needy, I will follow you.” Which is something that the team has been focusing our hearts towards and exactly what we are doing in Jamaica.
After church went to the pork pit for a great lunch of Jerk Pork and Festivals. Then off to the craft market for some bartering and great deals! Tonight we had a night of prep for the children's homes. We also had a wonderful time of team encouragement.
Tomorrow we are going to go to Dunns River Falls and then to the Robins Nest! We are very excited to meet the kids at the children's homes!
This team is such an amazing group of students. The laughs are never ending and they are such hard workers! God is working in their lives!
Much love to our friends and family back home! We miss you all!

Another day, Another Sunburn.
It was another early start to another long day! Couple of the team were up at 5:30am to help with breakfast and the rest of us were up by 6:30am to eat breakfast! 7:00 we were all in the van heading over to the work site. We were greeted by a bunch of smiling children today, it seems they feel more comfortable around the team the second day, they don’t hesitate to jump on you, or give you a big hug, or put baby powder all over you, or throw paint on you (Devin). These kids are so much fun, and they have been a blast to hang out with! Considering how much we accomplished yesterday with building the house, we were able to take turns today to just go and play games and hang out with the kids. 1/3 of the team was constantly working on the house today, and we were able to get all of the walls up, and the roof is almost completely sheeted, and let me tell you, it is looking good! While this part of the team worked on the house, the rest of the team was able to go play games and hang out with the kids for most of the day! With the scraps left over from the walls and the roof Margaret and Devin helped the kids make a crazy wagon/cart thing, which the kids sat in and flew down the hill, they had a blast while we all watched in horror waiting for one of them to get hurt! The kids then took the building project into their own hands and proceeded to make a table and a few chairs... these are some crafty kids, with what little they have, they definitely make the best of it. These kids have been incredible, always so eager and willing to help out in anyway they could. Unfortunatley with the amount of paint that went to waste yesterday, we couldn’t allow them to help us paint today, but they were okay with it, as long as they got to be around us, and talk or cuddle or just hang out.
Naomi, the mother of Karen (the woman were building the house for) was so wonderful today, as she provided the team with many snacks throughout the day. Right when we arrived and again at lunch time she brought us bread fruit with fish. Bread fruit grows on trees here and has a similar taste to a potato, the bread fruit she gave us was the only ripe ones around, which is a huge sacrifice for her to give to us to eat, then later she blessed us again by bringing the team grapefruit! Which is wayyyyy better then any grapefruit your going to find in Canada. It was so sweet to see Naomi bless us with what little she has, she is a wonderful woman, and it has been awesome getting to know her!

To end the day, we are all still healthy and happy and energized (surprisingly!), a few more sunburns today, but all in all we’re doing just fine. We ended our day with a team meeting and then headed to the tuck shop and stocked up on junk food! We are all having a blast getting to know the people of Jamaica, as well as growing in relationship with one another. This team is wonderful, so full of life, so fun, and SO funny.
Thank you for your continued prayer and support, we love you all!
oh.... p.s.... Levi gives a SHOUT to someone.... ;)

1st day on Site!
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP...What!? where am I? 5:30! Oh dang I got to go help make breakfast!
It was an early day for the team, two of us were up at 5:30 to make breaky, everyone else was up at 6:30 to eat, and we were on the road rolling off to work by 7ish. It was a 30 minute drive up a mountain. That contained many bumps, goat, dog and people dodging, steep and winding roads, and bags of juice. Our driver, Todd, a 55 yr old missionary from Cali, dropped us off at a poor rural community where our first site was seeing a women hand bathing herself in a some-what tarped boxed off area. The foundation and supplies were right beside the tarp shower area waiting for us to get to it. We prayed, and got to work! A third of group helped with framing and managed to build all 5 walls and put up 4 of them. It was a good first day! The other 2/3s of the group got their paint on! They painted all the wall sheeting, all the trim, and all 10 kids that helped them; all by 1:30! They were major fast, and spent the rest of their afternoon connecting with the families from this community. Around 5, Toddy Bear (Todd) picked us up and we headed back down the crazy road to our home at the YWAM base.
We arrived home just in time for some pumpkin rice and bean chicken stew...and a bunch of delicious hot sauce! A few of us got sunburns *cough Tyanna *cough, but all of us stayed hydrated. We then relaxed for an hour or so, and had a team meeting about first impressions of Jamaica. Here are some of them...
-felt very welcomed (hugged and laughed a lot)
-seeing poverty first hand created a wake-up call to how fortunate we are
-kids with barely any clothes, running barefoot over garbage piles, kids only source of food being the snacks from our lunch that we shared. Intense stuff!
-YWAM staff’s freedom to worship
-praying for everything (ie. YWAM staff thanks the Lord that they get to wash the dishes)
-Community kids quickness to loving and hugging (a deep desire to be loved)
It was a wild day, where we were all stretched in many different ways. Please continue to pray for us, especially for energy, joy and love as we serve this community all day tomorrow.
Thanks for reading, I am going to bed.
Peace -Levi, Hannah, and the Krew!

Arrived Safe and Sound!
We arrived landed safe and sound this afternoon to “exploding excitement!!” We sailed through customs and then went out side to meet our drivers, Todd and Arland(YWAM STAFF). We were instantly sweating. The students where amazed by the wonderful sights of Montego Bay, and all the cute kids coming home from school. Also their first experience driving on the left hand side of the road.
“Like a Dream, Beautiful, Incredible” were the students reactions upon arriving at the YWAM base. We had an orientation and then headed to the pool for a quick swim before supper! We had Curried Goat and Stew Chicken, rice and carrots/cabbage for supper, it was yummy!
After supper we went to a Community Meeting, with the YWAM staff, current DTS students, and local community members came for a time of Praise and Worship. Hannah got to share a bit about her “exciting team!” We all felt VERY welcomed and were hugged a lot!
It is currently 9pm and most of the students are heading to bed (Jamaica is an hour ahead of Saskatchewan time, so 8pm at home:). We did not end up getting much sleep last night despite our best efforts. We ended up waiting for a shuttle that never came (from not so Best Western), but the students had great attitudes! We almost contemplated staying in the airport because by the time we would get there we would only have three hours of sleep. The Lord provided a great man named Robbie who worked for a partnering hotel; He was already done work for the night and offered to take us to our hotel. We had a great conversation with him and when he dropped us off he would not take any money for our trip even though we insisted. What blessing!
Tomorrow we will be getting up at 6am to start our day! We are pumped for our big first full day!
Thank you all so much for your prayers and support on this journey! We know that we are not doing this alone! We are excited to see what God is going to do tomorrow and the experienced we will have!
